The boys returned to the field with bat and ball three months ago. Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alamra have been batting for a few days before going to play in the Indian Women’s IPL.
They also played in the IPL; But the rest have been out of cricket for a long time. The Bangladesh women’s cricket team has been away from cricket since the Women’s World Twenty20 in Australia in March.
No foreign team came in the middle of the corona. Nor was there any tour-series outside the country. No domestic league or tournament was held. So the practice is not happening for a long time. However, this time the women cricketers will practice after a long time.
If all goes well, Salma, Jahanara-Rumanara will start practicing again from Sunday, January 4, after 9 months. The practice camp for women cricketers will be held in Sylhet, a divisional city outside the capital Dhaka.
The women cricketers will practice from the bio-safety zone in the local hotel in Sylhet. Rumana, Jahanara and Salmara checked in at Team Hotel in Sylhet on Sunday afternoon. Before the residential practice in Sylhet, every woman cricketer, coaching-supporting staff and hotel staff have undergone Covid-19 test.
A total of 44 people, including cricketers and coaching-supporting staff, were tested by noon on Saturday. This evening, BCB Women’s Cricket Wing in-charge Touhid said that the practice will continue from within the bio-safety zone. So all the cricketers have been tested before going to Sylhet and hopefully no one has been positive. Everyone is negative.
